"If you have a strong enough WHY, the HOW becomes irrelevant." - Nancy DornanThe anonymous "They" say that sugar is addictive and that that addiction is harder to kick than the addiction to drugs such as cocaine. Moreover, excessive sugar consumption has been linked to not only Diabetes II, but also to various types of cancer, and obesity and its various ramifications are more deadly than war!
I am a Pentecostal Christian, but I have always found the Catholic (Both the Roman and Anglo-) tradition of a Lenten fast fascinating. Giving up something for 40 days as a means to help focus the spiritual link between man and God seems like a good reason to start on a whole new lifestyle. After all, most habits are said to be consolidated over a period of 6 weeks.
I plan to go low-carb, but not with as much fat as the Keto diets. Instead, I'll be focusing on eating whole foods (as opposed to processed and packaged) that I know were grown sustainably and organically, and cutting out most (if not all) of the "white stuff". The irony is that I shall probably be eating more than I am right now, but by giving my body the nutrients it needs, I should be shaping down in no time!
I've had success before by following the HealthPointe System. It is a Low-Carb and Medium Protein eating plan that was designed and tested by well-regarded dieticians here in South Africa and that doesn't use any gimmicks or appetite-suppressing drugs. Instead, it focuses on healthy all-day snacking, as well as moderate exercise (10 000 steps per day) to get the body moving as God designed it to. On top of that, they add organically certified food-based vitamin and mineral supplements to boost my body's systems into breaking down those pesky fat cells into fuel. I can live with that.
The only problem lies in getting my other half to join me or at least support what I am up to. He is SO not into what he calls "rabbit food" and he hates chicken passionately! Fortunately, chicken meat is not the only meat allowed. I shall just have to work around the basic requirements.
This is going to be fun!
